Access Overview

In order to connect to GCI's remote bookkeeping services. You will first need to establish a secure VPN connection AND open a Remote Desktop session with GCI servers. This page will show you how to configure you vpn access as well how to setup a shortcut to connect to the server.

VPN Setup

  1. Goto Network (Open Start menu - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center)
  2. Open VPN setup Dialog (Set up new connection or network)
  3. Select "connect to a workplace"
  4. Select "VPN"
  5. In the "Internet Address" field type: vpn1.vbssi.com
  6. Under the destination name field type: "GCI VPN"
  7. Use the User name and Password given to you via email
  8. Click connect

This establishes a connection to GCI's secure server enviornment.

RDP Setup

There are 2 ways to establish a shortcut to connect to the remote desktop environment.

  1. Right Click on the following link, select 'Save As' and save the file to your desktop for easy access. Remote Desktop File

  2. Follow the instructions below to create your own link.
    1. Open Remote desktop connection (Open Start menu -> All programs -> Accessories -> Remote Desktop connection)
    2. In the Computer field type: gci-2.vbssi.com
    3. Click options, then click 'Save As' and save the file to your desktop for easy access.
    4. Click "Connect"

Files and Folders

Your Quickbook files as well as all your working documents should be stored on your H: drive. The drive is backed up nightly. It's also accessible from your local computer. The files you save on your desktop of the remote desktop enviornment will be available between sessions.

Access to Remote Files

When the VPN connection to GCI VPN is established you have to ability to access the files stored on the H: drive of you remote desktop environment. To gain access:

  1. Open the run dialog box (Click Start Menu -> Run)
  2. Type the following command in the run dialog box: "net use H: \\gci-2.vbssi.com\username$ /p"

Please note that the name username is a place holder for your actual user name. So if your username is jparker the command should look like this: "net use H: \\gci-2.vbssi.com\jparker$ /p"

Once this completed the H: drive and all the files from the remote desktop enviornment should be available to your on your local machine.
